Notes for Joseph LUJAN Sr.
-Also known as (Luhan)
152-He spoke Hawaiian and was illiterate. It says that he was married once and that he had been married for 14 yrs. That would mean he married in Hawaii in 1896.
845-”She mentioned that Tutu would take her to cemeteries when she was young. When they were at the Kawaiaha'o Church Cemetery, she said that Tutu would point out that her father (Joseph Lujan) was buried over there. According to mom, she said that he was buried in an unmarked grave "over there under the roadway" (could have been pathway)”. (via Nathan Green who had a conversation w/his mother Rose Green).
488-“I was talking to Skip, when I was in Vegas last month. I asked him if he knew about Tutu's parents graves and mentioned that mom said that Tutu's father was buried under the roadway. He said that he heard that story many years ago, maybe from Uncle Joe. He said the roadway was Queen Street”.
510-“During 1986 Church Archaeologists determined that the burials were not from ancient times, but beyond that nobody knows the circumstances surrounding them. The bones were placed in 102 lauhala boxes, stacked neatly in a brand-new burial vault and recommited unto the Almighty in 1988…this time inside the cemetery. At the corner of Queen and Punchbowl streets”. (via a face to face with Keiko D’Enbeau, Archivist, Kawaiaha’o Church and me)
848-My theory is that he was one of the 102 found and there is no way of knowing for sure without unearthing the bones and doing a DNA test, which will not happen. This is what I’m going with.

863-She was a member of “Hale O Na Alii O Hawaii”.
856 One of the four royal Hawaiian societies. The society was originally founded by King David Kalakaua as the Hale Naua Science Society in 1886 with the purpose of gathering and preserving the knowledge of the alii and kahuna, and to promote the advancement of modern science, art and literature. In 1911 the society was renamed Ka Hale O Na Alii, became inactive and was then re-established in 1918 as Hale O Na Alii O Hawaii. Is a benevolent organization that was founded by Princess Abigail Wahiikaahuula Kawananakoa in 1918. She was the daughter of James Campbell and Abigail Kuaihelani Maipinepine of Lahaina, Maui. Her desire was to establish an association to unite and uphold the morale of the Hawaiian people, their culture, gain a deeper respect for each other and perpetuate Hawaiian heritage. The society is also a response to the disruptive historical periods where Hawaiians were dying in great numbers and the end of life protocols were not being performed. It’s really about honoring those people as they pass and making sure they have proper burials because that was a huge concern right around when a lot of Hawaiians were dying from disease. There weren’t places to bury them. There are protocols that aren’t publicly shared, but need to be perpetuated. (Compilation of an article found on the internet)
Notes for Rosalia (Spouse 2)
