Notes for Charles Peleiholani (Spouse 1)
-My father Charles (Chuck) was an incredible man who appeared at first glance to be very ordinary. But he excelled at one thing that no other person...no one....has been able to beat him at. He was the kindest, gentlest man I ever met. Slow to anger, quick to aid those in need, a funny man who laughed easily and honestly at people's mistakes. And, like my sister Dawn, I never heard him compare people or judge them against anything other than their own lives. He considered always the measure of the individual man. He truly saw all people as unique, it was an automatic and reflexive response. He could not help himself. It was almost involuntary...this niceness and kindness and easy going manner he had. His good wholesome happy approach to people remains my personal gold standard for simple uncomplicated friendliness...in Hawaiian, it is "Aloha". Like many men of his generation, he was very influenced by the post-Depression glamor of the Hollywood screen. And he had a lot of personal flair and was a bit of a dandy. He was also the best dancer I ever met, excelling at all forms of ballroom dancing and it was his joy to make every woman in his arms on the floor look like a movie star for 10 minutes. Thank you Dad for teaching me to always have a nice haircut and take care of my good shoes...and how to have style....to appreciate that which was a classic and resist silly fads....and to accept what I can from people and gently shrug off the rest...and even chuckle...I miss your good humor. Your lessons are the ones which have stood the test of time in my life.1340
